Terming Delhi as the epicenter of India will not be any exaggeration at all! It is the epitome of a lot of things India has to offer to its tourists. History

The history of Delhi starts from the arrival of the Mauryas, somewhere around 300 BC. Afterwards, Afghan Muhammad Ghori defeated the Rajput king Prithiviraj Chauhan III in the year 1192. After the defeat of the Slave dynasty, a number of dynasties like Khilji, Tughluq, Sayyid, and Lodhi dysnasty. Later on, the Mughal Empire ruled this state for more than three centuries. And this reign of different dynasties were interrupted by the British Empire in the year 1803. Following that, a lot happened during the British Raj in Delhi such as it was made a province of the Punjab and then again made the capital of British India. Being one of the developing states of the country, people continue to migrate to Delhi for a better lifestyle and employment.

Culture and People

Delhities celebrate all the festivals including Diwali, Eid, Lohri, Guru Parv, Mahiavir Jayanti, Durga Puja, Holi, Buddha Jayanti and Maha Shivaratri. You can enjoy each and every fectival being celebrated in this state with same enthusiasm. Pragati Maidan in Delhi hosts India International Trade Fair annually along with the very famous “Auto Expo”.

Delhi’s culture and lifestyle has been influenced by its enormous history and the variety of people who ruled it. Delhi is the place people can shop, have fun, visit religious places, enjoy the architecture of age-old havellis and forts and yet be in a modern state, which has several places like pubs and malls for the youngsters to hang out!

Places to Explore at Delhi

Delhi has a number of places that need to be explored in order to plunge into the state’s culture. The latest attraction of Delhi is its Akshardham Temple, which has been recently built. Also, here you can find a number of religious places comprising of almost every religion of India. Delhi is famous for “Bangla Sahib” (Gurudwara), its churches, Jama Masjid (mosque at Old Delhi), Lotus Temple (Bahai Temple), ISKCON (Hindu Temple) besides many other small temples located at different places.

Delhi also has abundance of monuments like Jantar Mantar, Red Fort, Qutab Minar, India Gate, Raj Ghat and the associated memorials and Humanyun’s Tomb etc. There are a few famous markets that reflect the culture of the state, like Connaught Place, Karol Bagh, Chandni Chowk, Sarojini Nagar, and Lajpat Nagar. These are the markets where you can find the hip-hop culture of Delhi. Dilli Haat is another of the places that should be explored while taking a tour of Delhi.

Cuisines

Cuisine in Delhi comprises of a lot of different stuff. People, here, love the street food like Gol Gappe, Aloo Tikki, Bhalle, Chat and Bhautre Cholle etc. Delhi has the best of North Indian as well South Indian food. Delhi has something to eat for everybody from any part of the world; however, Punjabi food and Mughlai delicacies like kebabs are amongst the favorite cuisines here.
